A Complete Landing Page Template Handover

What a full landing page template delivery includes: editable source files, a working form handler, page weight data, and what an incomplete handover is missing.

What arrives in a complete delivery

A landing page template is sold as a single-page marketing or launch page with its source. When you buy one, you should receive files you can open, edit and publish. That is the whole point of the category.

The four product types sold here are the SaaS landing page, the app launch page, the waitlist page and the event page. Each has a different job, but the handover should look the same: editable source, documentation, and a clear statement of what the page depends on to work.

    A complete delivery typically contains:

    • The editable source files themselves, not a hosted demo URL
    • The HTML, stylesheets and scripts that make the page render
    • Any build configuration, if the template uses a build step
    • A form handler or a written statement of which third-party service the form expects
    • Licence terms, including whether the default commercial licence applies and what it permits
    • A note on fonts, icons and demo images: whether they are included or whether you must supply your own

If any of those are missing, you are not buying a finished product. You are buying a starting point and a set of problems.

Editable source, never a hosted link

The most common incomplete delivery is a listing that offers only a live link to the seller's demo. You can look at it. You cannot change it. You cannot publish from it.

This is the difference between owning a page and renting a preview. A hosted link gives you nothing to edit, nothing to deploy and nothing to hand to a developer. If the seller's demo goes offline, you have no product at all.

When you buy from Landing Page Templates, the delivery method should be DOWNLOAD or ACCESS with files attached. A URL to a demo is not a delivery method. Treat it as a red flag, not a convenience.

What to check in the download

Open the archive before you do anything else. You should see the source files, not a single minified bundle you cannot read. If the HTML is present but the stylesheets are compiled and unlabelled, ask whether the source styles exist. If they do not, you cannot restyle the page without reverse-engineering it.

Forms need somewhere to send data

A landing page collects an email address. Then it has to do something with that address.

Many templates ship a form that posts nowhere. The input fields render, the button works visually, and the submission disappears. This is easy to miss in a preview because the preview only shows the page, not the destination.

Before you buy, find out which of these applies:

    • The template includes a form handler you can configure
    • The template expects a specific third-party service, which you will need to sign up for and possibly pay for
    • The template posts nowhere and you must wire it up yourself

The third case is common. It is not necessarily a dealbreaker, but it changes the work you are buying. A waitlist page template that posts nowhere is a design, not a functioning waitlist.

    Ask for the integration point

A seller who has built the template properly can tell you exactly where the form sends data. If the answer is vague, assume the form does nothing and price the work accordingly.

    Page weight is conversion

A launch page carrying several megabytes of hero video will lose visitors on mobile data before they read the headline. The visitor never sees your offer. They see a loading bar and leave.

Page weight is not a technical detail you can defer. On a one page website template, the hero section is usually the heaviest element, and video is the usual culprit. Ask two questions:

    1. What is the total page weight?
    2. Are images served in modern formats?

If the seller cannot answer the first, the template has not been measured. If images are shipped as uncompressed PNGs or JPEGs with no modern format alternative, mobile visitors pay for it in seconds and data.

Why this matters more on a landing page

A multi-page site can afford a heavy homepage because visitors arrive with intent and navigate. A SaaS landing page or product launch page has one job: hold attention long enough to convert. Every megabyte is a tax on that job.

    Documentation and dependencies

A template is not self-contained. It depends on things outside itself, and the handover should name them.

    Fonts, icons and demo images

Demo images, icons and fonts are rarely included. The preview looks polished because the seller licensed or sourced assets that do not travel with the download. When you publish, you either replace them or license them yourself. Ask which assets are included and which are placeholders.

    Open-source licences

Open-source licences travel with the code. If the template bundles a JavaScript library, a CSS framework or a font under an open-source licence, that licence applies to your use of it. You need to know what it requires, particularly if you plan to modify and redistribute. A seller who cannot list the licences in their own template has not audited it.

    AI-generated work

If any part of the template was generated with AI tools, that should be disclosed. It affects what you can rely on and what you may need to review. Undisclosed AI-generated assets are a documentation failure, not a technical one.

How to tell before the protection window closes

You have a limited window to inspect and raise a problem. Use it on the things a preview cannot show you.

    Before purchase:

    • Confirm the delivery is files, not a demo link
    • Ask what the form does with submitted data
    • Ask for total page weight and image formats
    • Ask which assets are included and which are placeholders
    • Ask for the licence list

    Immediately after download:

    • Open the archive and confirm the source is editable
    • Check that stylesheets and scripts are present in a form you can work with
    • Test the form and trace where the data goes
    • Confirm the licence terms match what was advertised

If a seller cannot answer the pre-purchase questions, the template is incomplete. That is your signal, and it arrives before you have paid.

    Questions buyers ask

Do I get the files or just a link?

The files. Editable source is the delivery here. A link to the seller's hosted demo is not, because you cannot change or publish from it. If a listing offers only a URL, it has not delivered a product.

    Does the form actually work?

Check before you confirm. Many templates ship a form that posts nowhere, or that expects a third-party service you will need to sign up for. The preview will not tell you which, so ask directly.

How is this different from a website template?

Scope. A landing page is one page built to convert. A website template is a multi-page site with navigation, blog and inner pages. If you need a full site, a landing page template is the wrong product.

Will it load fast on mobile?

Ask about total page weight and image formats. A hero video of several megabytes will lose visitors on mobile data before the headline is read. If the seller cannot state the page weight, assume it has not been optimised.
